Lieutenant Colonel Alhaji S. Bangura is from Greensboro, NC and is married with five children.  He is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and is currently pursuing his MBA at the College of William of Mary.  His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course and Advanced Courses and the Marine Command and Staff College. 

 

LTC Bangura began his military career on 1 July 2000 with the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) at Fort Polk, LA, and continued in various capacities for the next 19 years.  The highlights of his career are his time at Fort Polk as an anti-tank and reconnaissance platoon leader, at Fort Lewis as a reconnaissance troop commander, at Fort Bliss as the operations officer, executive officer, and commander of 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment.  LTC Bangura then served at the Pentagon as a Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army, and as the operations officer deputy director in the Training Leader Development Directorate of the Chief of Staff G-3/5/7, Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command. 

 

LTC Bangura volunteered his services to the Roy Williams Foundation because he felt Service Members need to realize the promise of coming home.  Service Members finish their tour and board a plane to redeploy believing they are heading to safety and for most that is true, however, its proven that is not always the case.  LTC Bangura joined the Roy Williams Foundation to prevent or reduce the number of suicides within our ranks.  

 

LTC Bangura’s awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (with three Campaign Stars), Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Staff Identification Badge, the Combat Action Badge, and the Basic Parachutist Badge.
